My Zero Waste Stay Posted by Fonda Berosini on August 25, 2008 at 5:47 pm

While in Boulder, I’m staying at the Boulder Outlook Hotel and Suites, where their belief in “Keeping our World Beautiful” isn’t just a motto, it’s a way of doing business. They are the first zero waste hotel in the area. Locally-owned, the independent spirit of Builder shines through every nook and cranny. There are live music events, bike rentals/tours and it’s even dog friendly with “Fido Rooms” and a dog run! (Oh how I miss my pups right now!!) The iconic Flat Irons are just down the street and loom majestically over the hotel.

And again, green living permeates all. Each room has three receptacles: Clean Paper, Bottles and Can and Compost so guests can easily discard their trash accordingly. All lights bulbs are CFLs and there is a voluntary linens service that allows you to opt of unnecessary washing.

Check out their impact to date:

The best part-it’s practical, family friendly and the rates are in the line with many low cost chains. Imagine if those companies adopted these practices, what a difference it would make!

You can reward hotels that are practicing green principles by staying there, check out IStayGreen.org to make your travel plans. takepart If you can’s stay at an enviro friendly hotel, the Green Hotels Association has some tips for you, including leaving nice notes for the hotel managers asking them to adopt green practices
