Green Summer Music Tours Not To Be Missed! Posted by Nicole Hughes on August 7, 2008 at 10:03 am

Don’t miss out on these green summer music tours featuring some excellent musicians with an sustainable and responsible environmental message. A more complete eco-friendly musical lineup for summer can be found on The Daily Green, but these were just a few that caught our eye:

Radiohead is at the forefront of greening the music industry. They’re active with environmental groups like The Big Ask, and even refused to fly to the US and insisted on performing via satellite on Late Night with Conan O’Brien because of the carbon toll the air travel would take on the planet. This summer, Radiohead is insisting that everyone on the tour use their own water flasks.   They’re also using bio-fuel in their buses, and are even refusing to use any airfreight. Look out for Radiohead tour dates in August.

Coldplay will be in the US in early August on their Viva La Vida tour, and will be continuing their tradition of carbon-offsetting their tours by planting mango tress in impoverished areas of India. Check out Coldplay tour dates here.

Jack Johnson will have his own eco village at every venue summer tour venue this year, including water saving showers installed backstage, recycle bins on location, biodegradable bags, and even a tent where folks can drop off their leftover food for food banks. The Bumbershoot Festival is set to take place Aug 30 to September 1 in Seattle, where you can see Beck, Stone Temple Pilots, Jakob Dylan, Keyshia Cole, Lucinda Williams, Flobots, Band of Horses, and other great acts. It’s apparently the eco-trend setting festival, and each year they up the ante on their greenness. Look out for hydration stations to reduce bottled water use, organic cotton merchandise, recycling bins and even an eco-art show. View the schedule here.

San Francisco Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is August 23, 24 and 25 – three days jam packed with some of the best and greenest acts out there. Radiohead, Primus, Beck, Tom Petty and Wilco along with many more will strut their eco-selves on stage at Golden Gate Park. One of the most unique featured green initiatives at the festival is the TRASHed Recycling Store, which is stocked with items you can purchase with recyclable bottles and compostable cups. You don’t have to be a rock star to get involved with carbon offsetting. takepart and find out how you can offset your own CO2 emissions at carbonfund.org.
