Save the Water (and the Whales)

When it comes to water conservation, a little effort makes a big difference. Â Here are six things you can do to takepart:
- Water your lawn only when it needs it. Â Here’s how to tell: step on the grass. Â If it stays flat, whip out the sprinkler. Â If it springs back up, you’re doing fine.
- Water when it’s cool outside.  This reduces evaporation and aids absorption.  Early morning is better than dusk because it helps prevent fungus.
- Plant drought-resistant grass, trees and plants.
- Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and sidewalk. Â Our driveways don’t have to look like Michael Bay shooting a Nissan commercial. Â This also keeps our oceans clean by preventing plastic wrappers entering storm drains.
- Wash your car at a commercial car wash. Â (Yes, the one time going commercial is green). Â Most commercial car washes recycle the water. Â Unless you’re really good with just a bucket or two.
- Collect condensate water from air conditioners and use it to water your plants.  You can also used those half-full bottles of water left over from the gym, or even a glass of water you’re not going to drink.  The plant doesn’t mind.
