An earthquake rattled Los Angeles at 11:42 am today. And it most certainly rattled me. This was my first earthquake and a 5.4 on the Richter scale is about as shaky as i ever want to experience.
Since the earthquake shook Hollywood, here are our 10 favorite films featuring a quake. (Hat tip to Blair for all of his help!)
1) Superman (1978)
2) Earthquake
4) Knocked Up
Trivia: According to the DVD commentary, Jay Baruchel made a deal with director Judd Apatow that he would be the naked guy in the earthquake scene if he didn’t have to ride the rollarcoaster, because of his fear. Apatow of course broke this by making Baruchel ride, so the part of the naked guy went to ‘Jason Segal.”
5) Tremors
The earth certainly moves…
6) Volcano
7) Encino Man
During the first ice age, a caveman (Brendan Fraser) is seen with his cavewoman girlfriend (Sandra Hess) as he makes a fire, until an earthquake causes a cave-in that buries them.
8 ) Deep Impact
9) LA Story
Last, but my favorite of the bunch. It’s one of the funniest scenes in the movie. can’t find the clip, but here the beginning of scene in the restaurant where the earthquake takes place (aptly titled, L’Idiot)
10) Reader’s Choice!!
