This morning former Vice President, Academy Award winner, Emmy Award winner, and Nobel laureate (whew) Al Gore gave a speech at Constitution Hall in Washington DC to press Congress and the President to take action on climate change. In the speech he called for the US to make all of its electricity from carbon-free sources in 10 years, saying that “the survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk.” Mr. Gore went on to chastise the administration for reliance on foreign oil and plans for Arctic and offshore drilling.
The speech was part of Mr. Gore’s new We Can Solve The Climate Crisis campaign that is brought together countless of celebrities from opposite ends of the spectrum (think Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich) demanding that we work together to fight global warming and carbon emissions.
In addition to supporing We Can Solve The Climate Crisis, there are lots of ways you can step up and takepart to fight climate change:

I have observed Al Gore’s comments at Constitution Hall and agree with them wholeheartedly. I strongly support his ten-year timeframe for the embrace of alternative energy sources, and along such lines I have a question for him and the general blogging community - What opportunities, nonprofit or otherwise, exist for someone who wants to participate in the “solarization” of a community’s energy infrastructure but who would need to seek third-party sponsorship for the actual panels, ac inverters, etc. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado which experiences a high percentage of sunny days throughout the year. The embrace of solar technology in this part of the country is a particular “no-brainer”. I have a degree in physics and have been reading up on the technology and procedures of solar installation. I would be willing to bet that there are many like me who in a “habitat-for-humanity”-type fashion would be more than willing to provide volunteer labor for installation if we could just get sponsored for the actual panels.
Personally, if I were running for president, I would suggest bringing back the WPA, and employ college-age kids in a grand-scale process of bringing our nation to solar. Think of the possibilities…
Dr. John Withrow
Contractor for the U.S. Forest Service
johnwithrow@fs.fed.us
This 10 year plan is a great vision, but I think that it may be too ambitious. A goal of producing 50% of our energy from renewable sources would be achievable and still quite a challenge.
I agree with Don, 10 years is awfully optimistic, but I think that it’s a good thing. With goals that people see as easily achievable within a longer time frame, I think there’s a propensity towards laxity in ambition. To achieve this within 10 years, we’d need to start acting now which is what we need.
Being a fan of the nuclear alternatives however, I’m just not sure how North America can build all the required plants in that amount of time!
Dr. Withrow,
Respectfully, I wonder where you think the funding would come from to reestablish the WPA? Keep in mind that the current national debt is 9 trillion (according to consensus). It does not seem timely to seek out borrowed money for a government operated work incentive program during a failing economy whereby government spending is notably loosely controlled. I also believe that each state should have the authority to manage it’s own energy undertakings through private enterprises, thus developing onto itself employment opportunities. Hence the enhancement of competitive business. I am confident that American citizens cannot tolerate further taxation or a continuum of free or bargained labor for another large scale federal agency project.
The test of time has shown solar energy is not a sell-out due to the high cost of implementing and converting. Personally, the collection and processing of radiation strikes me as a step in the wrong direction.
Bear in mind that the near future will bring good energy solutions because new energy ‘discoveries’ are in demand. Therefore, an ‘all out’ assault developing solar energy on a nation-wide ‘fast-track’ scale, would probably be a lousy investment decision, in the long run. However, solar energy should remain purposeful for many entities for years to come. Making a fast-track to solar energy is a precarious crossroad that taxpayers should not bear the brunt of except by personal choice with their own property.
Of course global warming IS a serious matter and evidenced by the meltdown of glacial territories and the displacement of islanders due to rising waters. By opinion, I firmly believe that the greatest cause and dangers are derived from: 1) Many years of industrial warfare emissions, 2) chemical compounds in rocket and jet fuel, and 3) Underwater volcanic eruptions causing warming of the waterways. The former can be controlled and deserves utmost attention on the part of all Governments and people. Accountability at the most approachable levels must be taken in this very serious global ‘crisis.’ Every effort should be made to keep the atmosphere pure as intended. In my ‘layman’ opinion, concepts that collect, release, or provide for containment of hazardous compounded matter or substance should not be considered viable as long term energy solutions.
I have seen this show on HBO and it was simply superb, very informative and very intresting, Al Gore’s Idea is something which we cannot igonre as an Individual, every human being on this earth is resposible for the Global Warming in some or the other way, awareness is very very important in this case, some thing needs to be done to get the awareness in each and every country, we need to release more and more video’s on Global Warming only then a common man can understand about it. Thanks to Al Gore who have took the initiative for this awesome presentation, his presentation needs to be translated in different languages and be presented in different countries. Thanks to Al Gore
i have seen the show on showtime arabia .i am from Egypt and i am really interested the show was informative in an interesting and simple way that any one can get it all over the world (including our third world) i suggest that this show should be spread widely all over the world in order to make every common citizen aware of the global warming issue and it’s sequences so he will take an action and change his life style to reduce this global warming by reducing the electricity and gas consumption. i suggest that the media has a big role to spread this awareness among people because it will be very difficult to achieve any step individually because it’s a universal problem an it needs us all to work together and all means every single country.
Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments - so rare on the internet. I think the breadth of responses and the wide range of places we received them from (US! Canada! Egypt!) shows how deeply this issue affects us all. The fact that Mr. Gore’s goal’s are ambitious is hardly lost on me, but I think all goals that result in change are nothing short of ambitious (maybe even a little crazy at the time). In the meantime, remember that we can all TakePart to end the climate crisis by doing simple thing like changing our lightbulbs, driving less, and using natural light and heating/cooling in our homes. For more tips - check out climatecrisis.net.
If you are so interested in spreading the incovinient truth, why don’t you just distribute the movie for free through the internet? Why do we have to pay for a dvd that was produced also at the cost of rising the CO2 levels? Excuses like “we need to support the movement in some way” or “we are not profiting from it, it’s just a form of donation” speak louder than your supposed desire of spreading the truth: it’s always about the money, it’s always just about the money!
Hi, Rudy.
I can understand and relate to your general disgust towards the oftentimes destructive connection between profit and message… and so can Gore. In his movie he talks about how much of our society’s opinions are unduly influenced by media soundbytes that do not always have the best interests of truth in mind. In his words, “it is difficult for someone to understand something when his paycheck depends upon him not understanding it”. (I may have paraphrased a bit there.)
In response to the issue you raise of the production of the DVD contributing to the rising CO2 levels, I believe that Gore has made all his efforts carbon neutral. This can be done by going to web sites like http://www.carbonfund.org which calculate a person’s carbon footprint and provides links to organizations to which you can donate (yes, money is involved… but not a lot) to offset those emissions - mostly, I think, through reforestation projects.
Your comment of “it’s all about the money” also speaks volumes in this context. The sad reality (one that I hate to hear as much as anyone) is that our high gas prices provide a hidden blessing - we are now being economically forced into doing what really should have been done decades ago - namely, pursuing energy from sources that are renewable and sustainable.
Good comments all!
If you have suggestions about how “An Inconvenient Truth” is being distributed, I recommend following up with either Mr. Gore’s groups (who has significant clout, as you can imagine) or the film’s distributor (Paramount Vantage). These groups were very helpful with getting the film’s message out; most documentaries never get theatrical release, let alone the marketing visibility and push. Also, the film’s producers, Mr. Gore’s groups, and the distributor worked together to get the DVD in the hands of tens of thousands of educators - for free. This way the film reached young students who will be growing up and dealing with the disastrous effects of climate change that was bought upon them by younger generations.
Thanks everyone for your comments! Remember that we can make a difference everyday, even by having a great open dialogue about the issue and raising it’s awareness.
I am a student in Beijing China, and I just really want to thank you Mr. Gore that what you said really made me relize how much Global warming effects us. I know you have hade many many other comments like this but, I’m just saying thank you.

Hello, I’m just a concerned teenager about global warming here in Philippines…and I just want to share some comments about the documentary film “Inconvinient Truth”. Well, last night I watched the film and it gave me a troubled feeling because the film showed a lot of predictions in the future,a terrible future of our world that we’re living today. Well, I just hope that “WE” could do something about our better future, because we need the entire nation’s cooperation to successfully change those terrifying predictions that Al Gore presented in the documentary film.
I agree with you,Christopher. I’m Cadiz Michielle…este Candice Mischelle and just a few words about global warming…”It’s not how our future depends on,but it depends in the palms of our hands”.
By the way,I live in a small city in vatican…I’m just a college student saying some comments here, thank you! ^_^
Hi! Gud evening! By the way, thanks for your movie and documentary film… You help a lot of this… You explain to us, how global warming will do to our world. And by the way, you’re so nice, Al Gore! And you help me also in my project. Because my adviser said to us that, we should make a narrative report about ” An Inconvenient Truth , ” So you help me a lot in my project. I really thank you! So, have to go now! Thanks a lot again! Bye! >_^
If someone think that 10 years is too short to achieve the goal, they can do it by themself all the life.
How do we get in touch with Al Gore? We want to invite him to speak in the Philippines about the unconventional truth.
oops! Its supposed to be the Inconvenient truth - my bad!

GreenHome.com gladly supports Al Gore and what must bedone to end the climate crisis!!!
I thank you for the wake up call.
I will simply do my part by chipping it into my daily routine.
This Documentary is so far “one of the best” I have seen.
There are three sites that I recommend
to all concerned about Climate Change:
.
An excellent short video — The story of Stuff.
http://www.StoryOfStuff.com
.
The PBS Nova production — Global Dimming
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sun/about.html
.
One of TLC-Life-Center’s 39 websites — The Peaceful Revolution
http://www.thepeacefulrevolution.com
.
You might also note that in order to solve the environmental problem
we can only do it through solving the economic problem.
Here’s a site that addresses that issue:

zupp robert cote, wanna join the TSG(three sister gays)???
hey, i have seen this movie several times on t.v but never got a chance to watch it full for several reasons, but today i downloaded it and watched it full, and i am kinda feeling motivated, more i am gona ask my collage admin to show this movie to every one in the collage even if i have to argue with my director for this i am gona do that, cause what i belive is that the young genration like us needs to be aware about whats going on around us and what we are doing to our planet, our home, more then any thing to ourself. MR. AL gore has done a great job in shaking and waking people up and explaing them fault of mankind and letting them know how they can help in stoppong this global warming.
hats off to you.
thank you to give such a wonderful knowladge about our home about ourselves, and the information about our enemy(global warming), and letting us know how to handel it.
if i can get dubbed version of this movie in regional language (hindi) so that would be very helpful to spread the massage around the nation easily, if you do have a dubbed version plz do let me know about it.
thankyou
hi !
i’ve just watched al gore’s film yesterday evening. waou !!!
congratulations : all is very easy to understand, it’s very interesting !
i agree with all that al gore says but i not sure that when i recycle paper, plastic bottle and other things i help a lot our poor planet ! it’s a little, little drop in a big ocean…
i think that the industrials and naturally politicians have in first the keys of the problem, but ecology is not synonymous with money and benefits … Yet with the global economic crisis that the world is … I think the solution is renewable energies.
but still we are talking about biodiesel, but if you look a little on the issue, we find that it led to the deforestation …
so I believe we must remain very vigilant to “green” solutions (honorable but still!) that it wants us to adopt.
again thank you to mr gore for the film and its determination!
and … Excuse my English which I hope is understandable … I am French and I do not often practice the English language !
There are many doubt casting towards the 10 years vision. However, shouldn’t we at least give a try? Is it better than do nothing? I believe doing at least something by giving even the smallest amount of contribution will helps. Think of everybody giving all the contributions, believing that what we do is for a better future. Like he said, are we capable of doing great things even though they are difficult.
Even the campaign might not be 100% a success as doubt concerned, does it means that the efforts that will be done will gone wasted? This is a moral issue indeed, and it’s up to us to make the right choice.
There is no such thing as Global Warming.
You must be deaf and blind or do you live in another planet?
Mr. Al Gore I want to greet you and tell that I admire your work about ecology matters in climate change, I watched your documental movie which I find very interesting and enlightening to open our eyes and get people in action, thanks a lot for your commitment for us to save our world! I also strongly recommend (the 11th our) movie, which i found very informative also
I think Al Gore is right! Take Action!!
I watched Al Gore’s movie “Inconvinient Truth” a few days ago. I think that it’s very well done
and really interesting. I was even more inspired to do more against global warming, than I was before.I usually get boared in documentaries, but this one took my full consentration, and I was really interested and inspired ,I really recommend this movie! Thanks to Al Gore!!
Mike Dammann- do you really believe in what you said?? You need to wake up! Watch Al Gore’s Movie and you’ll get a real understanding of what global warming is, that it is actually happening now (it exists!) and how you can help stop or reduce global warming.
aguaaannteee Al Gore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! El documentel está buenísimo!!!! besos
I’d like to express my strongest support for the initiative led by Al Gore. Just one tiny little thing that I do not agree with, which appears in the documentary film: the images showing big pieces of ice falling down in Perito Moreno Glacier (Patagonia_Argentina) have nothing to do with the indisputable global warming. In fact, this glacier is one of the few in the world that is not receding but growing! The reasons are still unclear. Anyway, it’s sheer stupidity to try to hide the incovenient truth.
gervasi@inifta.unlp.edu.ar
I’m from Peru, and after I saw The Inconvinient Truth I must admit it opened my eyes. I agree with all of your ideas, and I don’t want Peru to be under water in a few years, or suffer from lack of water. I admire your work and thank you for sharing your knowledge about global warming with the world. I hope we all can stand together and face these facts and come with a solution. It would be really interesting if you could do another DVD showing the effects and solutions 5 years after the first. Again, thanks a lot for making the world aware of this problem.
I am from Turkey, first of all I do not want people to misunderstand me. I am 15 years old and I just watched to film today and I am not being even a little childish.. I have seen many stupid people ruining the world and turning it to a bull —-Sorry I cant say it here —- but we have to face the truths. World is in a danger thats right but population is alot! We have to get rid of it either EMIGRATING to other planets , either KILLING a huge amount of people - no thats just running to easy- we have got the technology to EMIGRATE. Why don’t we stop thinking about money and first save the world? Why do not we be a hero all together? 650 thousand years + 2 thousand and is it over? Won’t we ever reach 700? This is being an end as Mr Gore says because we lost the POLES people wake up! Take away the population, Mr Gore said it was 2 billion people at his time, why not move 4 billion away? Ahh I see we can not even emigrate a city when its an earthquake… We are not disciplined thats it. Holly.. No we have to get disciplined faster than the warming because it is going faster than Hussain Bolt either, 50 years left. I would like to point out something. In 30 years many gadgets were found after Edison’s Telephone to an Iphone, PS3’s with many options right, PC’s with awesome options right. - Countries have many secret gadgets- right. But we can waste the 30 years to find a way to emigrate and 20 years to take the people away in a safe way.
As a conclusion:
Kill 4 billion people.
Emigrate 4 billion people.
Whatever you do it you have to choose to save an entire life on earth if you do not want to be Mars as we can see there is life on Mars a little left but I think Warming ended it somehow too.
It may not be easy but it is easy if you elect the right guy as Mr Gore says. I have mailed TakePart 5 mails today and ait@participantmedia.com 1 mail I ll be waiting an answer.
If not I cut the hope away its all up from me.
Sincerly, chackal_111@hotmail.com - pleasecontact me here the other chackal is private to websites.
Mr Algore.
You really did a great job.
And you know everything.
But one thing you don’t.
Human is NOT human anymore.
No matter what you do.
this convo is so spasticated and btw all this globalwarming really worries me and when i grow up we they’l be no electricity left im only 16
I am very impressed by this. May, I contribute in this noble cause what are the ways.
Thank you Mr. Al Gore for your wonderful documentary film. Really speaking i never knew
that we are going to face very critical situation, it’s the time to change the world means us.
After watching your film i started spreading the message to all the friends, family members
the people who are in village, i dont know what steps we should take to avoiding the disaster of BEAUTIFUL EARTH.
This is not about different country it’s all about world, all human beings should think and take some steps. Could you help me in this regards what to do and what not to do
Many Thanks for you great work.
Regards,
Shashi
kaya sa sobrang abuso natin sa ating kalikasan hito binalikan na tayo sinisira kasi natin kaya bakit ba tayo matatakot kung magunaw ang mudo, talaga namang magunaw to a, It is writin in the Bible so dapat magsisi na tayo dahil kagagawan naman ng tao na magkaroon tayo ng global warming, climate crisis kaya huli na yong ginawang doccumentaries ng dating Vice Pres. Al Gore. Maganda sana ang kanyang campaign kaso as I’ve said huli na ang lahat, ito na yung umpisa, this is a curse.
Why isn’t every one driving a prius?
This was the best movie ever and I think we should do something about this/
I have seen the movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” and “the 11th Hour”.
Both movies have mentioned that the human lifestyle is one the most important actors which are hurting the earth.
In “The 11th hour” it has been said that it is human conceitedness and the human thinking that we have the right to dominate and exploit nature as we feel like, which is among the biggest things hurting the natural world.
And I totally agree.
I feel one of the biggest things is the attitude if the people, they are unwilling to change.
An example of this is of a discussion on gogle groups;
Original post was”Consumption is the way of life.
Consumption is accepted, approved and taught by society. And
consumption is considered the normal behavior.”
Reply was,’This is getting crazy. I like Reese Cups, and I don’t
care who wants me to stop consuming Reese Cups.
And I like Caffeine free Diet Cola, with lots of CO2 in it,
my body needs CO2 to feel good and regulate my breathing.
So consider this a notice, if anybody tries to prevent me
from consuming Reese Cups and Diet Cola, I will fight.’
Hola Al Gore.
yo quisiera saver como yo puedo resivir tu DVD gratis.
Hello, this is a message I want to send to whom it may concern, or to whom may answer, I live in Tijuana, Baja California, in Mexico, on the border next to San Diego California, in the U.S.;this letter is to ask first, What can I do to help you guys to make this world crisis end or at least make more conscience about it, because as we see, the whole world is at crisis right now, there’s no food, no gas, there’s a new flu going on in my country, there are things that make this look as a red light warning to the entire change of the world, so I really want to put to work, doesn’t matter how, I really want to make a change,to be honest, I’m scared, I’m afraid of not do anything now that we still can stop it, and regret it when its too late so please, answer my commentary, or send an e- mail, i’ll be disposed to do whatever it takes so we can save our world.
thank you.

Great and very encouraging to to know about what worldwide efforts can be achieved to fight global climate today. keep up the momentum of this crusade for everybody’s drive.
From a modest and aspiring model community here in the Philippine Islands, a group of dedicated and civic-minded oriented retired professionals; active govenment workers; entreprenuers; senior citizens associations;homeowners; church leaders & their followers; members of the academe and the youth decided and bonded together to organize their local folks and form the so call “ALAY sa BARANGAY MOVEMENT” (ABM-Philippines)…(Alay means: Act of Giving/Sharing/Caring & Loving)(Barangay means: smallest government unit in the Philippine Islands referring to a community in where it is headed by Chieftain/leader as popularly called today..Barangay Captain). ABM is currently headed by a collegial body of men and women who joins ABM with free lifetime membership whose main advocacy is to help develop and improve the living condition of a community towards economic growth, peace and posterity. Today, ABM was greatly challenge how to address “Global Climate Change” at their level. ABM serves a small community where all are freely come together to share its field of expertise, time, skills and resources by caring, sharing and loving its goals and mandated community concerns. ABM operates without funds, however to support its ongoing monumental dreams to “Save Mother Earth” at all cost, frequent community dialogues between the community members and other resource speakers are coming in to discuss and talk about only things that will enhance nature’s wealth and preservation. Here at our modest community, every month, a regular meeting(1st Saturday Monthly BreakFast Forum with “PotLuck” Only being served), invitees from all community members talk, listen and eat while community problems on waste management programs are discussed which affect environment; food production levels and jobs posting generations etc…. our ABM is the umbrella organization for this model Barangay 180; Zone-16; District-1, Caloocan-North, 1427 Caloocan City, Metro Manila, Philippine Islands to get deeply involve in “Save The Mother Earth”. ABM looks beyond what legacy it should give the next generation as its posterity. Our surroundings are planted with tall trees; most arable lands are utilized for vegetable crops for food on the table…ABM leads the commuity in doing our “Green Community Program…lastly, ABM recently launched its own community-based newspaper….ABM NewsLetter, the official newsletter of the “Alay sa Barangay Movement-Philippines” (ABM-Philippines) where all community values topics are published for the general readership of this model community. ABM welcomes feedbacks/comments/suggestions/assistance (in kind or material amount to support its goals and advocacies). Please feel free to write us, Attention: The Editor-In-Chief, ABM Newsletter, Email Address: epc1767@yahoo.com
Welcome to the world of ABM-Philippines, “Save Mother Earth”
The first step is always the most difficult. Mr. Gore is doing an amazing job in showing the whole world what is really happening. A big Hug from Funchal, Madeira - Portugal
The silliest thing is, as Al points out @ the end of the film, this gigantic, terrifying, looming catastrophe, can be combated in the teeniest, tiniest decisions we make day to day; walking to the shop, picking wine from your town instead of from France and using e.e light globes.
There are clearly big changes that need to be addressed too, but the governments can’t act without the people’s support (and presently we seem to be playing Blind Man’s Buff on a cliff) so pleeeeeeeeeese vote green (in USA ACTUALLY vote).
Unfortunately we can’t all, as someone in my uni course suggested this year, buy a rifle and move to Tasmania.
Watching Al Gore’s “An Enconvenient Truth” was really great. I’ve always been interested in climate change, but never realised what terrible effects it can have on the planet. I come from the U.K. and there are lots of noticeable changes here too. In Dundee, Scotland, for example, the Tay river is rising all the time, and there is little protection from it overflowing it’s banks and causing the whole ocean to come rolling into Dundee city. There have also been tornadoes in parts of England and Scotland recently. Anyone who knows what British weather is like will tell you it’s unreliable, but not like this!
I know Al Gore to be sincere and also know that if we don’t do something soon…we are all gunna pay the price.
Lets change the world together! Com’on ya all!!
Hello,
We are a hospitality company that work with hotels and governments all over México. We are developing a Sustainability Training Program to reach 1,500 people every year. This program is part of a LEED Certification as “Green Hotels”. Our goal is to implement this program in December 2009 in more than 40 properties. This will help us reach more than 850 thousand guests every year too. The impact is tremendous.
Who would be the best person to discuss the permission to use a couple of minutes of the movie An Inconvenient Truth with?
Regards,

Thank you Mr Albert for this film. Each time I watch it, I struggle to control tears coming out of my eyes. Our organisation is trying to use this film to create awareness about Climate Change in Uganda. The Inconvenient truth film was shown on Tuesday this week in Munyonyo Commonwealth resort hotel, Kampala, Uganda. We have also shown it twice at the Uganda museum where the climate change exhibition is being held. Please help us secure some copies for distribution. Samuel Omoding
