Hurricane Bertha, the first hurricane of the season, is strengthening over the central Atlantic Ocean and could become a Category 2 later today. The center of Bertha, which strengthened into a hurricane earlier today, was about 775 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, which include the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Saint Martin, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Barbuda, Antigua, Montserrat and Guadeloupe.
It’s still too early to tell if the hurricane will reach any land areas.
