A group of political satirists/activists who call themselves the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco are planning to ask voters to rename their water treatment plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
Hmmm, let’s see…there’s the John F. Kennedy School of Government, the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the Ronald Reagan Freeway – I guess it’s pretty common for things to be named after Presidents in memorial of their service to the country. But as the NY Times noted last week, our current President may be the first have something named after him that you can contribute to from the bathroom.
The group has already received more than the number of signatures needed to place the vote on the November ballot to provide an appropriate honor for a truly unique president.” Not surprisingly, a number of San Francisco Republicans are not too pleased with the proposed measure:
Republicans in a city that voted 83 percent Democratic in 2004 are not thrilled with the idea. Howard Epstein, chairman of the ever-outnumbered San Francisco Republican Party, called the initiative an abuse of process.
You got a bunch of guys drunk who came up with an idea, Mr. Epstein said, and want to put on the ballot as a big joke without regard to the city’s governance or cost. [NY Times]
The renaming would take place on January 20th - the day the new president is sworn in. As I sit here on my nice comfy, completely unbiased and totally objective couch, typing up this post which is meant for information and entertainment purposes only, should YOU dear reader feel the need to takepart and sign the petition, be my guest!

We strongly vote for naming the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to George W. Bush Sewage Plant. Please let us know how can we vote for this.
How sad I feel for all of you. President George Bush does not deserve this disrespect. You are shameful and viewing only through glazed glasses. I realize you disagree with him, don’t like him but he is our President, and deserving of respect. I didn’t like or approve of Presidents’ Clinton or Carter (Clinton being an improvement over Carter), but as President they are deserving of our respect.
It seems to me you are sore losers from 1st election of Geroge Bush. Legal as it was. I have never seen such a vengeful group. You are through these years self rightous, liberals who tolerate evekything moral & immoral, good or bad unless you disagree. Then you condem that or those who disagree with you. Your brand of freedom L& tolerance & loyalty I don’t want .
Ask George Bush if he cares that Fan Fransisco wants to name a Sewage Treatment Plant after him. IMHO he has cleaned up so much BS from the Democrats, why should San Fransisco be any different. What does a SF waste water treatment plant do? Takes a lot of shit from liberals, but some how remediates the water so that it may be returned the environment. Works for me! Do it. There is a T-Shirt in there somewhere that will make me money and make SF look, well…like pathalogical liberals… to the point of being petty, vengful, ignorant. Nothing new there.
Thanks from the health care community.
That is a fitting end to a president who did so little for Americans.
So little for Americans? You can remove your head from the sand at any time. Winning the war, tax rates, Supreme Court, Gun Ownership in DC, No other attacks on the US (discounting the Congress)
It seems that George W. (Charlie)in the words of god, delivered to the people that were most responsible for putting him in office, those who would reward him for later, the economic policies of Friedman & vice pres. Cheney(Edgar) and in doing so encouraged and contributed to the current conditions that will haunt us for many decades to come. Iraq, the war against drugs, the free unregulated market and the control of religion where it is expressly forbidden by our constitution all have contributed in ways never seen before and it is up to those who can make changes for the better to improve what has been badly created. They will need much help, advise and patience to save the good and eliminate the bad. Let us pull together and find common ground where we can regain what good that has been lost through much failed government policy
