The results for PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2008 are in! And the winners, who will be given a lifetime supply of tempeh and tremendous amounts of smugness, are Anthony Kiedis and Leona Lewis! Hooray!!!
Now, when I reported on this contest three or four weeks ago, I made mention that I had no idea who Leona Lewis is. Of all the people on the list, I had to go and single her out, and now she’s won, and I have been shamed. Just to make it up to her, she gets her own block quote, straight from the PETA announcement of the winners.
Lewis-whose album Spirit made her the first British artist to top the U.S. Billboard chart with a debut album-has a squeaky clean history. And when it comes to the dirty business of animal abuse, she’s a woman of action. “I am vegetarian so I don’t have clothes, shoes or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products. … I’m on a mission,” she says.
Kiedis recently became vegan, which is cool, but still isn’t quite as cool as Flea’s role in The Big Lebowski (totally NSFW due to language). Sorry. Just fact. Anyhow, we here salute the winners, and grumble quietly to ourselves that some of us at takepart didn’t win (let alone get nominated).
takepart and visit PETA’s website to see what else they’re doing to promote the, um, ethical treatment of animals (turns out that’s the ETA part).
