Tom Brokaw Calls Letterman Out on Carbon Footprint Posted by Nicole Hughes on June 12, 2008 at 10:34 am

Tom Brokaw called David Letterman out on his carbon footprint this week. Brokaw was on the show to promote his new book, Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the ’60s and Today. When Letterman brought up the recently snuffed climate change bill and the Bush administration’s poor performance on global warming and environmental issues, Brokaw had this response:

When Letterman bemoaned the lack of government support on the issue of global warming, Brokaw replied, The government has to lead and those of us who drive (insinuating Letterman) uhh uhh big carbon-emitting vehicles or fly in airplanes that have only two passengers on them. Which provoked Letterman to utter, Alright, alright, that’s fine Tom, and end the conversation. [ecorazzi.com]

Check out the video clip here.

Ecorazzi points out that Brokaw is correct in his somewhat subtle articulation that it’s not enough to complain about how others aren’t doing enough for the environment. We all contribute to global warming everyday, and we’ve got to be the change we want to see! Still, as I pointed out earlier, government makes a big impact in setting environmental policy standards for the rest of us.

takepart and calculate your own carbon footprint, then take action and find out how to reduce (or even eliminate) your own carbon emissions.
