Mother’s Day Celebration of Movie Moms : #6 Posted by Gina Telaroli on May 8, 2008 at 10:47 am

The sixth look at one of my favorite movie moms. (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are here)

Charlotte Andergast in Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata

The ultimate in mother movies, Bergman takes his namesake, Ingrid Bergman and makes her a mother you can’t soon forget. Ingrid’s Charlotte is a woman who gave up her family in order to have a music career and Liv Ullman plays her oldest daughter. When Charlotte pays a visit to Ullman’s house, the two share a night of emotional revelation that is amazing yet emotionally draining to watch. Combined with the striking visuals and colors of the film, Autumn Sonata will stay with you for some time.

to learn how you can ensure that kids across the country continue to have music in their classrooms (perhaps this would have helped Ullman’s character in the scene below the fold - you should really watch it!)

(it should be noted that this clip has no subtitles - but it’s such an amazing scene you don’t need them at all..)

I can’t resist another chance to print this.
To all Mothers World Wide!!!!!!
Our Day, Sunday!

What One Mother Wants…
Written for Dana and Eric

I am a mother of two, who wants to debate
The value of more. Lets not leave it to fate.
Some love nature made, but others throw weight,
And blind a great vision - a new world. We wait…

Lets sit the G8, with those who have vision,
To end poverty, lets make the decision
To give peace a chance. Lets make it our mission.
Draft a plan for the planet, can we all please just listen?

At a round table, lets make plans for mine
And all other children, so they grow up just fine.
Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair, do you really undermine
Peace in our world? We walk such a fine line!

Bruce, Neil, and Paul are heroes who try
To sing for our safety, before we all die.
Sunscreen and baby seats both make me cry,
A Nestles and Coke team! Who knows the why?

A life with good health and all love defended.
We give peace a chance and all war is ended.
Where less is much more and all scars are mended.
Hunger is history and motherhood transcended.

Lets fill up the room and listen to all,
Hawking, Chomsky, Suzuki, are some we can call.
People with future, who stand up so tall,
And try to change our direction, before we all fall.

There is no evil, not in their stories.
Just bad planning and big bad bullies.
Humans caught up in materialistic glories.
I won’t even care if I ever hear ’sorries’.

Many god fearing people, are end of world sayers;
But man can do that, we are all major players!
We sell such destruction, in so many flavours.
Lets listen to all, in case they’re our saviors.

Accidents happen, the ozone is thinning,
Lawn grass is dying, desert is winning.
Tides are a’rising, technology spinning.
Helping our planet, should not be called sinning.

Let’s call politicians and businesses too,
Musicians and movie reps, to name just a few.
Scientists, and Al Gore for his red, white, and blue.
Lets make a good world, for my kids and for you!

Possessions and wealth, we look and we find.
No one is perfect, I really don’t mind
Just tell me right now, if you are so inclined,
To see when more is not better, to which we are blind!

Let’s use the U.N., down in the U.S.
We can all get together and and talk truthiness.
Discuss how a nation can kill with its kindness.
Can heaven on earth be seen through our blindness?

Smart power, I dream. The engines are new.
They do not burn black. But white, with a hue
Of clean solar power, and wind. You know what to do
To save all our skins and the red, white and true.

I am a mother, who feels plutoed by men
But I see them unhappy, alone in their den.
They have all the power; their youth wonder when,
Balance can be restored, and kids not a burden.

If it is war you must have, then I will step forward,
When my son is eighteen. For you might have heard,
That Davy Crockett was fifty, when he died for his word.
Sending our scarce youth to war, is just so absurd!

What one mother wants, is all the above.
I would if I could, send all a white dove.
It takes so much less, to instill much more love.
Lets show all our gods, what man is made of!!

One Mother Who Wants.
