The drama, the cat fights, the drunken binges–it’s baaaaaack–and it’s all going down in their new energy-efficient Hollywood digs! The 20th season of MTV’s reality television program The Real World premiers next week, and the show has incorporated a variety of environmentally-friendly features including a solar-heated swimming pool, bamboo flooring, and a hybrid car.
The Real World is also giving viewers the option of “taking up residence” in the Virtual Real World, where users can click on different parts of the house to learn environmental facts and tips, create eco-friendly virtual clothing, and share environmental activism stories with other viewers.
Bunim-Murray Productions wants to make the show totally carbon neutral by using carbon reduction methods and featuring cast members using green products throughout the season. The aim, says MTV, is to set and example by showing youth viewers how they can incorporate more eco-friendly solutions and lifestyle choices into their daily activities.
“Our environment is changing, and young people are realizing that the choices they make in their daily lives can affect the future of the world they live in,” MTV President Christina Norman said. “The Real World has a longstanding history of tackling the issues facing each generation of MTV viewers ” and this season, we wanted to empower our audience by incorporating real, actionable solutions that they can take to make their own homes environmentally-friendly.”

I’m really not that impressed with this set up, but what would really do it for me is if they installed an eco-friendly toilet like this one:

It turns human gobbledy-goo into manure!
“The aim, says MTV, is to set and example by showing youth viewers how they can incorporate more eco-friendly solutions and lifestyle choices into their daily activities.” I do applaud them for their efforts, however.
Check out the outdoor furniture by Maku! It is 100% reclaimed wood with post consumer metal hardware. We even use the shavings / sawdust / remnants of production and sell them at the local market for livestock bedding. With the proceeds we take the local workers on eco tours of Java to better understand thier surroundings and the impact they have upon their eco system. Beyond that we are proud members of 1% for the planet. And by the way, we are just a bunch of guys from the Action Sports Industry that used to work for the likes of O’Neill, K2, and Burton whom like to make really cool furniture and have fun!
