Scarlett’s Shoes for Sudan Posted by Giulia Rozzi on March 30, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Scarlett Johansson has donated 2000 pairs of her newly designed Reebok shoes to help refugees in Sudan as part of the Soles4Souls project.

According their site Soles4Souls facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear (both new and used). The idea behind gifts of shoes is nothing new to the Soles4Souls team, as they coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 900,000 pairs donated for these disasters. The team originally operated as www.katrinashoes.org, with several churches partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear.

In addition to the human impact, the charity also has a message on the environmental benefits. According to founder Wayne Elsey, while 300 million children have never owned a pair of shoes, that same amount of shoes was dumped into American landfills last year alone.

Soles4Souls will also sponsor National Barefoot Day on June 1, kicking off the first national Barefoot Week. The week will be filled with shoe drives, walkathons, and events to get folks involved with the charity. During Barefoot Week, Soles4Soles will donate over 300 thousand pairs of new shoes to hurricane ravaged New Orleans and four other struggling communities in the US.

Thanks for the post. We currently give away a pair of shoes every 28 seconds all around the world. That is a cool deal. IT is as simple as you cleaning out your closet and sending the idle shoes to us! Consider hosting a shoe drive? Keep updated with our charity at http://www.soles4souls.org. Thanks again - Wayne Elsey - Founder of Soles4Souls, Inc

cool, the shoes will be quite useful for trekking the environment there. Not only that shoes will be used to trekking but also as a means for gather food and supplies. I really do hope that there she would also support the building of schools there in Sudan. I happen to visit Emma Academy Project who will be building a school there in Sudan. The school will be provided to give shelter, protection, and education for the children of Sudan.
