Jewelry with a Purpose Posted by Giulia Rozzi on March 27, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Actors Courteney Cox and David Arquette, have co-designed a necklace with a butterfly, a symbol for hope and freedom, etched onto a small silver pendant, to benefit the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation (EBMRF). The necklace on sale at SATYA boutique in New York and online at www.satyajewelry.com

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a genetic condition that causes skin and linings to break and blister at the slightest touch. Sufferers battle daily with fluid loss and infection of the open wounds. In worst cases, they’ll die of skin cancer before the age of 40, many in infancy.

This rare skin disease is affecting someone near and dear to both David and Courteney prompting them to get involved with EBMRF. and buy the necklace for yourself or as a gift, it not only looks good but it’s for a good cause.

I have a mild form of EB, I don’t even want to imagine what it must be like for those with a exteremly severe case. The pain I have now is more then enough. I am 15 years old i can’t be on any sports teams except swimming, I can’t go walk through the mall all the time with my friends, and all kinds of other things.

I have had two cousins that have had the junctional form of EB. Which is the most fatal. Ethan was 7 months when he died in 2005 and Kaylee was 3 months old when she died in 2008. We are still suffering from the loss and my family prays for all the people who have to go threw with it.
