Autism: The Musical– An HBO Film On An Autistic Children’s Theater Posted by Katie Halper on March 26, 2008 at 1:41 am

Autism: The Musical, which premiered on Tuesday night on HBO, is a documentary which follows the Miracle Project, a musical theater program for autistic children in Los Angeles run by a Elaine Hall, the mother of an autistic child.

A the film’s website explains,

In 1980, autism was a relatively rare disorder, diagnosed in one in 10,000 children in the United States. Now it is one in 150.

AUTISM: THE MUSICAL counters todays bleak statistics with one womans optimistic pledge to lead a group of autistic children in defying diagnosed expectations by writing, rehearsing and performing their own full-length musical.

Following five Los Angeles children over the course of six months, director Tricia Regan captures the struggles and triumphs of their family lives and observes how this musical production gives these performers a comfort zone in which they can explore their creative sides.

Both on and off stage, AUTISM: THE MUSICAL is a call-to-arms, bringing attention to a modern-day epidemic, all the while celebrating the way the human spirit can overcome any challenge.

What a wonderful idea to get the message out that something is wrong.

Where are the medical men and women in all this?
Giving out vaccines and drugs?
Good or bad for us?
I wonder…

Who’s Afraid of the Mighty *MIRK Men?
Inspired by mothers and grandmothers who cried over vaccines.

Who’s afraid of the Mighty MIRK men. I am. Please listen.
Some sell vaccines to protect our kids. See their syringes glisten,
With diseases in formaldehyde and in fetal serum from cows.
Have our elite and ruling classes forgotten all their vows?
They are to serve and protect the people using democratic rules.
Why line up our children? Can governments be fools?
Why should some mothers have to hide their lovely kids.
Many know the risks but tightly close their lids.
I see AIDS victims might have vaccines to blame.
Polio in chimpanzee parts and Africans for game.
Why should tax takers lie and sponsor one sided spin?
For plunder hidden as profit, must surely be a sin.
If you’re still afraid to stand up to a Mighty Mirk Man,
Don’t be. Refuse. Your right under a democratic plan.

Hi, The number of sufferers from Autism is increasing, but is Autism being made aware to the public eye well enough? There is an increase in awareness slowly coming into play such as autism bracelets, which are there to not only raise money but to raise general awareness…!!
