Alternet reports that in a segment that aired Friday, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres spoke about the horrific murder of 15-year-old Lawrence King, who was killed by classmate Brandon McInerney for being gay. Students apparently often taunted King who didn’t even have a safe home to return to after school: he was living in a shelter for abused and troubled children.
Ellen said:
“A boy has been killed and a number of lives have been ruined. And, somewhere along the line the killer, Brandon, got the message that it’s so threatening, so awful, and so horrific that Larry would want to be his Valentine — that killing Larry seemed to be the right thing to do. And when the message out there is so horrible that to be gay, you can get killed for it, we need to change the message. Larry was not a second-class citizen. I am not a second-class citizen. It’s ok if you’re gay.”

It’s not okay to humiliate a heterosexual person in front of their peers suggesting they are gay.Being gay is morally wrong and no one doesnt deserve to be killed for it.. but being gay doesn’t give you the right to chase guys around or humiliate them in front of their peers.It is very tragic what happened..but there is more than one victim here.
Your right, there is more than one victim here. But there were many other things that boy could’ve done besides shooting Lawrence in the head. What kind of person get’s so riled up that they commit cold blooded murder. I’ve been teased, pretty harshly in my life, and it’s happens to many many people every single day and I have NEVER EVER once thought that the solution would be to kill that person that was teasing me. there is something wrong with that boy if he thought that that was the best way to go about dealing with the situation. he was WRONG. yes there were more than one victim, but only one is dead and never gets to see the light of day again or wake up to the sun shining on his face. never gets to feel the love of his family, the care from his friends. his life was cut short and he NEVER gets the chance to the life that he was meant to live. it’s not right to humilate people for any reason whatsoever but it does not give the right to put someone else’s life into their own hands. i hope that boy get what he deserves for shooting Lawrence. yea, he might have been humiliated a bit, but Lawrence never gets to breathe another breath on this earth. you tell me who has it worse….
I’m sorry but being gay is NOT MORALLY WRONG. open your mind a bit and think about how ignorant you sound right now. by that logic, black people shouldnt marry white people, or christians shouldnt marry jews or whatever….do you see how wrong you are??? gay people are people just like you and me. they live, breath, laugh, cry…feel pain, sorrow, joy, happiness and LOVE just like you and me. It is not right for gay people to be condemmed for loving someone. this makes so sense to me whatsoever. they are people, they have feelings….why would you say they are morally wrong? it’s wrong to love somebody?!?! this makes no sense to me. i am a straight 21 year old female, who disagrees with you completely 100%. i don’t understand how people can tell other people their morally wrong for loving. EVERYBODY LOVES SOMEBODY!!
