“Everything’s Cool” Debates the Global Warming Debate Posted by Gina Telaroli on February 11, 2008 at 11:25 am

Everything’s Cool? Well, after watching Judith Helfand and Daniel Gold’s documentary about global warming and the history of America’s perception of climate change, I’m not so sure. I’d been wanting to see the doc for quite some time and this weekend finally sat down to see how this film would differ from that other big global warming picture.

It turns out that Everything’s Cool is quite different. While Gore and Guggenheim take more time explaining the science of our changing climate, Helfand and Gold look at the political reasons why Americans seem to be in denial that global warming is even happening. They do a great job of looking at both sides, exploring those that write and work to inform folks about global warming and also those folks who proclaim global warming to be a myth. Everything’s Cool contends that it is the debate about global warming itself that causes so much harm:

On television, where every issue is presumed to have two sides, shills from the fossil fuel industry glibly dispute the overwhelming scientific evidence for global warming. Casual viewers can thus reassure themselves that they don’t have to worry about climate change. Given the warnings that the world has a narrow window of opportunity to reduce carbon emissions drastically, who doesn’t wish that those oil and coal flacks and their well-funded political supporters were right? [The New York Times]

So watch the trailer below and at the film’s website - you can even set up your own activist screening of the film connected to one of the awesome organizations the filmmakers are working with.

This is a terrific movie, it does a great job of exposing the disinformation campaign to convince Americans that the jury’s still out on global warming. Thanks for spreading the word!

There is so much information being blasted at everyone, very few are capable of putting all the pieces together.
Those with a vested interest to keep their money, are keeping secrets and sending out half truths.
Back in the middle ages they used torture and death to keep their secrets. Are they still?
I think we are finally evolving brain power to overcome their BS.
BS is bureaucratic spin.
