The Good Life, With Retta Sirleaf of ‘Parks and Recreation’

The comedic actress spills on hot tubs, forgiving bad drivers, and green-product packaging.
The Good Life, With Retta Sirleaf of ‘Parks and Recreation’

Nothing gets between Donna Meagle and her Mercedes SUV on the hit show Parks and Recreation. She’s got some of the best serrated one liners and deserves an Emmy for eye rolling too.

This week Sirleaf gave us a glimpse into her life as she typed away on the set of her show.

My favorite place in the world is… Rome, Italy. I’ve been a few times with friends for vacation, and I love it: the food, the sites, the ever-attentive boys. All of it is yummy.

If I could change the world, I would start with… Feeding hungry children. It’s heartbreaking to know there are innocents who go to bed hungry, wake up hungry and through no fault of their own have absolutely no means by which to get fed. Parents can deal with their own suffering, but to watch your child go hungry would be torture.

My last random act of kindness was… Letting someone cut in front of me on Laurel Canyon Boulevard when he KNEW his lane was right-turn-only. I normally am very territorial when it comes to the road. I cannot stand when people zoom past a long line of people who are waiting their turn and then cut those people off. BUT I’m finally getting to that place where I’ve started saying “Let go and let God.” Who knows? That “inconsiderate ass” who’s trying to cut me off could just be trying to get to his very dilated pregnant wife in time to catch the birth of his first child.

My favorite green product is… The household cleaning products at Target. It could just be that I like the packaging.

It would be easier to be green if only… I had someone to handle it for me. I usually go for what’s easiest, but if I could have someone to do my green thinking for me, I’d be all over it.

Right now I’m addicted to…. My iPad, on which I am typing the answers to these  questions while the crew sets up lighting for the next shot on set. Apple is going to take over the world. They’ve already taken over my apartment.

Right now I’m avoiding… The gym. I am waiting on my blood pressure prescription and I’m afraid to go to the gym without them because I can’t NOT use the hot tub after a workout. I’m afraid if I use the hot tub w/o my pills I may pass out, and nobody wants to resuscitate the chubby wet girl on the floor of the gym locker room.

My superhero power would be… To snap my fingers and appear where I need to be appropriately dressed and in full hair and makeup.

Our next President should focus on… Getting the poor above the poverty line. I’m serious about people being able to feed their babies.

My eco rule of thumb is... If there isn’t ink on both sides of a paper, it’s still viable for printing, and soap can be used until it disappears in your hand.

My last eco faux pas was… Running the hot water in the shower of my hotel to steam the wrinkles out of a blouse.

Next on my life to-do list is…to finally paint my place. A plan I put together just after I moved in Sept 22, 2002.
