Five-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn knows a thing or two about the impact that athletics and play can have on a young person's life.

"Since childhood, sports has been one of the most important influences in my life," says Vonn, an alpine ski racer.

That's why she's teamed up with DoSomething.org and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to launch a national sports equipment drive called Give Your Gear to collect gently-used items for local clubs.

"I'm excited to be part of a drive that helps make sure every young athlete can reach their potential," says Vonn.

According to the Boys and Girls Clubs, 80 percent of student-athletes graduate from college, compared with 63 percent of non-athletes.
