It’s back-to-school time and John Legend knows exactly what he would do with a red pen: make some corrections to the flailing U.S. education system. The singer launched the Show Me Campaign in 2007 to help ensure that every kid in America gets a shot at good schooling. This past summer, he visited schools in New York to inspire with his own story. “Education is supposed to be the great equalizer and a path out of poverty,” Legend tells TakePart. “Yet kids coming from the toughest situations are most likely to attend our worst schools.”
