About The Film

When civil war tears apart his family, a young West African boy named Agu is forced to become a child soldier and join a unit of mercenary fighters led by a fierce commandant. Agu is indoctrinated into their ranks, and the commandant’s guidance provides order amid the chaos, but his fatherly bond with the soldiers proves poisonous as the boys descend deeper into their anger and lose sight of their humanity. As the ragtag troops advance, Agu develops both a revulsion for and a fascination with a war that slowly consumes him. Directed by Cary Fukunaga and based on the best-selling book by Uzodinma Iweala. In select theaters and on Netflix Oct. 16, 2015.
