In his lyrics, “cooking” is more often than not a reference to crack, “cheddar” to cash, but in honor of his 44th birthday (and some numerology stuff), Jay Z is taking up veganism for 22 days—and that’s not a metaphor.

Hova wrote on his blog yesterday, “On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!!"

From now through Christmas, Shawn Carter and Beyoncé Knowles will be cutting out meat and dairy. What happens after the holiday? Jay isn’t so sure. After 22 days, one more than the amount of time physiologists, according to Carter, say it takes to form or break a habit, their family meals could go in any number of directions.

“A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We’ll see…,” he muses.

On the 2007 track “Success,” the lyrics lament the repetitive trappings of fame, asking, "How many times can I go to Mr. Chow's, Tao's, Nobu?”

At the very least, Jay’s new, fleeting diet will force him to switch up the restaurants he patronizes.
