In Case You Were Wondering, God Hates Low-Carb Diets

Pat Robertson weighs in on pop trends in dieting and halal meat.

Pat Robertson has the ear of God. How else would he have known that Katrina was divine retribution for Roe v. Wade? Or that Haitians were being punished for a pact they made with Satan in order to overthrow the French when the massive earthquake struck the island in 2010?

Apparently, Robertson gets some more pedestrian advice from god too, including diet tips. And it turns out that god isn’t down with diets that are low in carbohydrates and high in fat.

“You get swollen joints, you get gout” if you eat a low-carb, high-fat diet, Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network's 700 Club. Which, ok, sure. But he goes quite a few steps further with his critique: “Sooner or later, it violates the principles that God set down,” Robertson says.

Right Wing Watch pulled that clip and another in which the conversation drift toward food and religion from Monday’s edition of the 700 Club.

Later on in the show, the topic of ritual slaughter came up. And if you ever sought out a halal leg of lamb because of the laudable standards the Muslim practice places on animal welfare, you’ve been funding terrorism.

That’s right: As sure as Huma Abedin is whispering about radical Islam into Hilary Clinton’s ear, the Halal Butchering Industry is a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood, according to Robertson’s researchers. They’ve discovered that “a portion of all profits from these halal butcheries is going to the Muslim Brotherhood.”

“So if you buy halal food you’re sending money to the Brotherhood,” he adds, “and the Brotherhood in turn supports Hamas and, you know, Islamic jihadism—well, not that, but Hamas, particularly, and other radical organizations—that’s the danger.”
