The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear opening arguments on the marriage equality debate as soon as next week. But one person they should make time to listen to is 12-year-old Daniel Martinez-Leffew, a San Francisco boy who was adopted by two gay men.

Daniel recently made this impassioned public video plea to U.S. Supreme Court Justice John G. Roberts, who is himself the father of adopted children.

The 12-year-old explains that while his medical problems made it difficult for prospective parents to embrace him, his two gay fathers happily welcomed him and his infant sister into their home—effectively changing the course of their lives for the better

Transplanted out of long-term foster care and into a permanent home, Daniel has been able to thrive thanks to the love and support of his two fathers. And even at his young age, he's sensitive to the fact that his nontraditional family is worthy of the same legal protections as others. “I know you have a tough decision to make with the gay marriage issue, but my family is just as valuable and worthwhile as any other.”

What's so inspiring about his story is not only that Daniel found a positive ending to his story, but that he's fighting so hard to make sure his dads do as well.
