Caught Cold-Handed: Man Steals Glacier to Sell Designer Ice Cubes

Talk about single-handedly causing global warming. Authorities in Chile’s Patagonia region have arrested a man for stealing five tons of ice they say he had systematically carved away from the Jorge Montt Glacier.
I’d like to believe this crook was an environmentalist gone mad, some demented eco-freak hell-bent on preserving a national treasure before it melted away into oblivion.
But that wasn’t the case. Turns out, this professional pilferer was just some dude trying to make a profit. Police suspect the ice, valued at $7,000, was destined to make gourmet ice cubes for use in upscale bars and restaurants in the country's capital of Santiago.
Moral of the day: If you’re a petty environmental crook looking for work in South America, don’t steal glaciers—cut down trees!
A whopping 86 percent of deforestation crimes in the Brazilian region of the Amazon go unpunished each year.
