Pardon the cheerleading, but we’re thrilled to announce that The Help, a film produced by our parent company, Participant Media, has earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Three of the film’s stars were also nominated: Viola Davis for Actress in a Leading Role, and Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain for Actress in a Supporting Role.

Many of our colleagues at Participant and TakePart worked incredibly hard on The Help, and we’re proud to recognize their success.

The film explores the role contemporary domestic workers, nannies and caretakers play in our society. Through its social action campaign, you can learn more about the important work of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, as well as how to support men and women who give their hours to families and households.

All winners will be announced during the eighty-fourth Academy Awards, set for February 26.

The Academy certainly went with much higher brow nominees this year which I think will lose them a large portion of their young audience. After doing better at being in touch with the public the past two years, these stiff nominees just fall flat. I usually have something in common with the choice but not this year- if the contenders seem stuffy to you, check out my own Top 10 Movie Picks of 2011 at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/01/top-10-movie-picks-of-2011.html where you won’t see a single of the Academy’s nominees for Best Picture but you will get some movie artwork I drew up as well as the reviews!
