Can Laughter Save The World? (You Betcha)
We've all heard the old line that "laughter is the best medicine." But can it also help change the world? One group of veteran comedians certainly thinks so, and they're taking their idea on the road to get you to open up your mouths (with laugher) and your wallets (for a good cause).
Transfoming the World Through Comedy, the brainchild of Amber J. Lawson, Zoe Friedman and Jodi Lieberman, aims to raise much-needed funds for "catalytic" philanthrophy with its multi-city, multi-platform inaugural event on November 16.
Comedians will take to the stage at three of the country's most storied comedy clubs to benefit Off the Mat and Into the World, which uses the principles of yoga to inspire people to go out and create change. Off the Mat helps fund water purification programs in Haiti, school building, and small business development.
“As comedy business veterans, we are surrounded by the gift of laughter and know the power of it," said Lieberman, who spent a decade programming the powerhouse Montreal Comedy Festival: Just For Laughs.
So who's taking the stage on the 16th?
- New York City: Gotham Comedy Club featuring Judy Gold
- Chicago: Zanies Comedy Club featuring Bobby Slayton
- Los Angeles: Hollywood Improv featuring Russell Peters, Marc Maron, Retta, Jeff Ross, and Ben Morrison
