Chile's regional environmental commission gave the green light Monday to a $3.5-billion hydro-power dam project, and not everybody is happy about the prospect.

Opponents contend that the massive HidroAysen construct will ruin pristine Patagonian valleys. But what hope do pristine Patagonian valleys have of surviving when they cross the path of progress, power and profit? That hope would be these people right here.
