5 Ways to Help Kids Breathe Easy on World Pneumonia Day

Pneumonia kills more than 1.5 million children each year, making it the leading cause of death among those under the age of 5. On World Pneumonia Day, you can take a stand.

Here are five ways you can help, courtesey of Worldpneumoniaday.org:

Drink Wine

If you purchase wine between now and November 30 from participating wineries, you'll also be donating to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI). How it works: for every case of Syrah sold during the month of November, 12 participating Rhone Rangers wineries will give $10 to GAVI. Find a list of those wineries here.

Give Kids a Shot

Kids who lose their lives to pneumonia are dying needlessly. More than 1 million young lives can be saved annually with vaccines and antibiotics. You can help by sponsoring vaccinations. Give here.

Don Your Blue Jeans

On November 12, make a statement with your clothes. Wear blue jeans (or a blue shirt, sweater, or shoes) to show your support for kids who turn blue when pneumonia takes their breath away. Pledge to TakePart in the global movement here.

Send a PneumoniaGram

A PneumoniaGram is a reminder to world leaders that it's time to make eradicating pneumonia a priority. Send your message to public officials here.

Tell Your Friends

One of the most important components of prevention and treatment is awareness. Go here to find facts and info you can tweet or share with your Facebook friends.
