"Our city's addiction to Big Macs and other high-fat fast food is literally breaking our hearts."—Susan Levin, M.S., R.D., nutrition education director for Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) on the nonprofit's decision to make an ad targeting McDonald's as the cause of obesity.
PCRM hit McDonald's squarely in its golden arches Thursday with a video, aired on the Daily Show and local news broadcasts in the D.C. area, that features a dead man clutching a Mickey D's burger. The commercial ends with a recommendation: "Tonight, make it vegetarian."
In a press release, the committee explained the jab: "McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast-food chain, serves a long list of high-fat, high-cholesterol items and offers almost no healthful choices.”
Heart disease kills more than 1,500 residents of D.C. each year.
