Deep-Fried Beer: Where Fair Food Meets the Bar

From the man who brought the Texas state fair jalapeño corndog shrimps comes a new feat in fried food finery: deep-fried beer.

Inventor Mark Zable, who has a patent pending for the ravioli-like beer bites, says he was inspired by a moment with his kid and has spent three years perfecting the secret recipe. He scoffs at naysayers, insisting that eating fried food once a year during the fair won't kill anyone.

He's taking his beer brainchild to the state fair this year to compete in the fried cookoff Big Tex choice awards, where he's competed for many years. Laughing, he told BBC,  "I want my damn trophy this year."
