TakePart in Law & Order: SVU--New Season Starts Tonight!

Editor's note: We're working with NBC.com and Law & Order: SVU to create ways for viewers to get involved with the issues presented in each episode. Come back next week for a sneak peak of the next episode and how you can TakePart. After realizing that the victims of recent sexual assaults match a handful of cases from 10 years ago, the detectives determine that the wrong man has been doing time for the last decade. But getting him exonerated—and putting the real criminal in the slammer—might be just as difficult. Watch a TakePart exclusive clip from tonight's show: Unfortunately, most victims don't notify the police about their attack, and only 6% of rapists will ever spend a day in jail. With the trauma of an assault clouding their ability to clearly identify details from the crime, victims might be unable to definitively identify their attackers. Support the work of organizations like RAINN and the Family Violence Prevention Fund, and help the Innocence Project transform the criminal justice system so wrongful convictions become a thing of the past. Here are a handful of ways you can get involved with the issues: 1. Immediately report an offense and end the cycle of abuse by calling 1.800.656.HOPE or visiting their online hotline. 2. In tonight's episode, misidentification threw the wrong man in jail for over 10 years. Help reform the criminal justice system so detectives like Stabler and Benson can catch the right criminal. 3. Find out how you can become a Rainnmaker and spread awareness and support for RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. 4. Become an ally for women and register for a toolkit. 5. A woman is sexually assaulted every two minutes, and girls in college are far more likely to be targeted. Download the campus guide and start making a difference.
