The Politics of Truth: From Africa to Iraq to Washington and Back Again

I was scouring the internet for an interesting, environmentally driven story to post about when a new email popped up in my inbox. Within contained a link, and upon clicking I came to a fairytale of sorts, one that I thought was worth sharing. So, just what was this quaint discovery? A short film...about toilet paper and poop. Yep, I said it. It's a small picture about what happens upon flushing away our smelly little friends, and the detrimental impact on the environment caused by our love of quilted toilet paper. (Read our editor Adriana's post on the same subject here.)  The film is aptly titled The Adventure of Our Butts, and in all of its lullaby-fashion makes for a very enjoyable, not to mention informative and sometimes satirical, watch. This little film follows a young boy who is launched into an adventure on a magical toilet and, through an array of statistics and observations, learns how we Americans waste too much energy simply keeping our rear-ends clean. If you like this fantastic piece of work I encourage you to visit the website of the company behind it, Greener Media, a Brooklyn based multimedia/production company that focuses on producing content that is both environmentally and socially conscious. Their work has been accoladed, with one of their recent shorts winning a 2009 Webby Award. Another favorite of mine coming from these folks is called Breathe Easy, which focuses on the problem of air pollution as seen through the eyes of two children living in the South Bronx of New York. The company was founded by NYU film grad Phil Buccellato in 2003 and, along with Phil, employs the hands of directors Jesse Ash and Jon Fletcher. Their work spans feature documentaries, short informative animations, a travel show, viral content, and the like. Check em' out!
