Women’s Lives Are Too Important: Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act!

An estimated 1 in 4 women has been a victim of severe physical violence from a partner. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is one of the most effective tools to combat domestic violence and sexual assault and it's up for reauthorization this year. In the Senate, new provisions to the law would extend protections to Native American women, undocumented women, and members of the LGBT community. But the bill that passed through the House doesn’t include these provisions, leaving millions vulnerable.
Organizations like Emily’s List and the National Organization for Women (NOW) believe this is wrong -- the VAWA should protect all victims, regardless of immigration status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation!

Members of the House are holding the Senate bill hostage, refusing to vote on it. Join Emily's List and NOW by pledging to contact your representative to urge them to vote on the Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act.
Not sure who your representative is? Visit the House website to find your congressman and contact their office.
Over the last two decades, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) has helped millions of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault seek justice. New provisions in the law will increase protections for vulnerable groups, like LGBT persons, undocumented women, and Native American women. This issue is too important to ignore!
I pledge to contact my congressman and tell him or her that the final VAWA needs to protect all victims!
