Separate wet and dry garbage at home, by Vinod Bodhankar
Positive micro-contributions to management of community garbageIn this age of recycling and reusing it is important to understand that a major source of garbage (apart from restaurants, businesses, etc) is the home.We need to separate wet (green) and dry garbage diligently. 1. We can hand it over to the community agency which collects them separately.2. We can use composting/vermiculture/bioculture to 'digest' the wet (green) garbage at home itself. The dry garbage - paper, glass, cardboard, plastic - is separately handed over to the community garbage collection service or to recyclers. In developed countries this might be an established practice. In developing countries this is the need of the times. Moreover, if there is no collection facilty for separated garbage we must fight to get these legislations passed and implemented at local, regional, national and international levels.Tags: Members: 8
Garbage may be biodegradable or non-biodegradable. Non-biodegradable garbage like plastics should be separated from the biodegradable garbage and recycled. If this is not done the earth will one day become so full of plastics that there will no longer be any space left to bury or dispose it.
Wish New York City was offering that possibility!
