Hillary + Tyra = BFF

Last week Hillary Clinton appeared on the Tyra Banks show. When asked about the infamous Monica Lewinsky incident Hillary said that she had to “dig down hard” to get over the Monica Lewinsky affair of ten years ago, but that she “never doubted Bill’s love” or her “faith and commitment” to Chelsea and their extended family. Watch it after the jump.I love that Hillary spoke so candidly about Bill’s affair. And though scorned women come up to her everywhere asking for advice “all the time,” she counsels: “no one story is the same as any other story…what I can tell you is that you must be true to yourself.”It’s not often we hear stories of reconciliation and forgiveness. Whether or not you agree with Hillary’s martial choices, I admire Hillary’s because she made her own choices.Hillary isn’t telling scorned woman across the world to take back unfaithful spouses, she acknowledge that “no one story is the same as any other story…what I can tell you is that you must be true to yourself.” This is wonderful advice that can be applied to so many situations.Discussing her personal struggles make Hillary relatable and real. Personally I’d prefer a flawed yet honest person running the country rather than a picture perfect liar. And kudos to Tyra for addressing more political and socially responsible issues on her show. I have mixed feelings for Tyra. Her heart is in the right place but she sometimes comes across as contradictory and narcissistic. However I give her credit for bringing national and worldly issues to the Tyra audience who may otherwise not be exposed to political issues. I know I’d rather watch a fun, daytime talk-show interview with Obama than a long CNN debate.I’m a bit of a political-phob. Big government words frighten me. That doesn’t mean I don’t care, I just don’t fully understand. So thanks to Hillary and Tyra for making politics a bit more accessible to folks like me.And of course, thank you Tyra for asking the most pressing question of all “What reality program would you prefer to compete on? Dancing with the Stars, American idol, or Top Model?”Hillary’s response? “In my dreams I would be on “ËœAmerica’s Next Top Model’ but in reality I would have to choose my limited talents and of them dancing is better than singing. You do not want me to sing.” Me too Hillary. Me too.

  1. You think that trite, poll-tested response was her speaking candidly? There is virtually nothing candid or genuine about what Hillary Clinton says in public at this point. Granted, she’s a politician trying to get elected so that’s her job, but that doesn’t mean you need to buy into it.

“no one story is the same as any other story…what I can tell you is that you must be true to yourself.”

This is not wonderful advice…this is a bland, one-size-fits-all response which tells you essentially nothing. It’s the lyrics of Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All” recycled and made into palatable political pablum.
