A vaccination for any addiction?
Nicole Hughes January 14, 2008 | 11:47 pm EST

How would you like to be vaccinated from addiction to drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, and even foods that are bad for you? In labs around the globe, researchers are working on developing just that.

Dr. Fran Vocci of the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) says that they are close to a year away from creating a vaccine against cocaine that could help millions of abusers kick their addiction. Another similar vaccine named TA-CD, developed by husband and wife team Dr. Kosten and Dr. Kosten at the Baylor College of Medicine has seen early successful clinical trials against cocaine use. They’re currently seeking FDA approval to conduct a 300 person study in six cities.

Traditional anti-addiction solutions include 12-step programs and psychotherapy, but researchers argue that addiction is a medical problem that should have a medical treatment, not simply an emotional one. The Kostens and their collegues see TA-CD and other similar vaccines as the first step toward developing roads of recovery for not just cocaine addiction, but for other addiction disorders as well.

Let’s hope they come out with a Super Nintendo vaccine for my little brother before I lose him forever. In the meantime, allow me to direct you to HBO’s Addiction Project, done in partnership with the NIDA, containing resources for understanding addictions, treatment, stigma and aftercare. 1. Vaccinations, mmm.
Wonder if they are going to be in animal parts and/or have substances like latex, formaldehyde, and thimersol in them.
The most comprehensive theory for AIDS is the polio vaccination given in the Belgian Congo between ‘57 and ‘59. Read the River by Edward Hooper. You will be amazed. I am posting my political poem that was inspired by the book.
I hope scientists carefully examine and test what they use to culture their diseases.
The chicken pox vaccine given to our school kids was in fetal bovine serum. Anyone heard of mad cow disease?
    How about SIV in chimpanzees?
Take care and thanks for the heads up.

    The Source of the River

Inspired by The River by Mr. Edward Hooper
Many years of righteous research and wondrous words!

The river of tears from Africa, must be followed to its source.
Medical knowledge will be gained. Then we can use full force,
To fight AIDS, which started in the Congo. We know man is ambitious.
Polio had struck his kids, his hero. Here drink the monkey. It is delicious.
Kids get to test vaccinations. Can such sadness be resolved?
How could man foresee it! A new killer has evolved!
The source of the river has got to be explored. It is academic!
Vaccines in animal parts may have started an avoidable pandemic.
Ed Hooper took up the quest for truth. After careful thought, I agree.
If we do not believe that truth is worth striving for, we will cease to be.

    Love Lora Bruncke
