Knut, the polar poster cub for climate change, is no stranger to Hollywood royalty; he’s already had a brush (well, OK, make that an airbrush) with Leonardo DeCaprio. The two never actually met, but both were shot by Annie Leibovitz and, through the magic of Photoshop, wound up together on an Icelandic glacier gracing the cover of last year’s Vanity Fair “green” issue. Back then, Knut was a super cute’n'cuddly cub; now, he’s more of an awkward adolescent, but he still draws the crowds at the Berlin Zoo, which has reportedly been offered $5 million dollars for the rights to Knut’s story. The producer behind the project, Ash R. Shah, wants to make an animated movie based on the life of the popular polar bear. And he wants Tom Cruise and Katie Holme’s tiny toddler Suri, who’s not quite two, to be the voice of Knut. “With his friendly character, he serves as an ambassador to the Earth’s problems - climate change and the melting polar ice caps,” Shah told People.com. Better watch out for Suri, though; if she’s a chip off the old block, she might try to squeeze in a plug for Scientology, the Cruise-sanctioned “cult” that the Germans love to hate. No word on how Knut feels about all this. Guess he’ll just have to groan and bear it.
