Condoleezza Rice is concerned that large-scale intervention by Turkey in Iraqi Kurdistan could be a ‘destabilizing’ influence on the region. Earlier this month, the Turkish Army began cross-border artillery strikes into Iraqi Kurdistan. Last weekend, the shelling was supplemented by airstrikes and now Turkish troops have advanced into Iraqi territory. Now, Rice wants Turkey and Iraq to ‘work together’ to solve their Kurdish problem. Evidently, unilateral military action isn’t the preferred method of handling one’s national security problems anymore. Who knew?
