It’s a debate that will probably continue for as long as kids have to wear clothes to school - uniforms or the freedom to wear what you want? In San Bernardino County, an elementary school is changing to uniforms - arguing that is better for families with different incomes and also that when they don’t have to worry about their wardrobe that kids can focus on school. I remember being really passionately against dress codes when I was in high school - but now I am kind of torn, on one hand I agree with the arguments that are being brought forward in San Bernardino County but also, as a teen I really liked being able to show who I was through my clothes….Oh well, one thing I can be sure on is that I love The Pipettes and their song I Like A Boy In Uniform (School Uniform):

Yes, it comes up in public schools all the time.

It may have too much of a military flavour for the young and rebellious.
Of course, once we get older we look to easy fixes.
If all kids had more or less the same income, the issue would go away.
As for consentrating on clothes and not school, most kids will not use most of what they learn anyway. Getting along and genuinly trusting and liking their peers would be something better to strive for, not individual grades.
And maybe in some instances, the clothes may make the difference!
Who knows how the great designers dressed in school!
